I went on a company trip down to Kenting the past week. It was exactly what I needed--a break from work, tanning on the beach, eating for free, sleeping on comfy beds, tanning on the beach, etc.
Will post pics up soon.

Shit Happens
Some bitchass stole my pink bike!!!
I locked it next to the subway entrance--where all the other bikes are parked and when I checked on it yesterday it was gone!
A curse to the person(s) that stole Pinky!

August Blues~
I had another weird dream last nite.
I was driving somewhere and I called up Matt LeBlanc--only I couldn't remember his name, so I called him "Joey". I was confirming our plans for later and he teased me about not remember his name.
I then pull up to a spa like place to meet up with someone. I'm not sure who I'm suppose to meet with until Courtney Cox flags me down! So we chat for a bit and Jennifer Aniston joins us!! She's still sad over her divorce and gained a lil weight (ok, a lot of weight). So Courtney and I are doing the sympathetic head tilt while she grieves and we see Brad Pitt about to walk in door! (glass doors) He's holding hands with Jennifer Garner (weird how it wasn't Angelina Jolie) and Jennifer Aniston starts to weep while Courtney gives him the evil eye.
I sensed the upcoming tension, so I get up, walk towards the door, grab his arm and lead him away before all hell breaks loose. I guide him upstairs to a hidden room where a room full of wannabe thugs are playing poker and I make Brad get in on the game.
I go back downstairs and Courtney Cox turns into Roseanne Bar!! And she's pissed at me for leading Brad away so she starts chasing me in the spa and I wake up.
Talk about weird~~
I had my first English class last Saturday. 3 people showed up and we went to a nearby coffee shop for some afternoon tea. The company picked up the tab. My co-workers then came over to play mah jong, cards and eat, eat, eat. The last 4 left the apt around 4:30am. Felt a lot like college--sad thing is, I'm still recovering! And I didn't even drink. *chuckle chuckle* I ain't 18 no more!

The city
I love walking in Taipei. The place is cramped with sky scrapers, cars, subways, buses, scooters, street vendors, shops, etc. that walking around is the best way to explore.
Whenever I take the bus/ride my bike to work, I always think of a scene from "You've Got Mail". It's in the beginning where Meg Ryan walks the streets of New York to her bookstore. As she walks, stores are opening, people are heading to Starbucks to get their morning coffee--its like watching the city wake up. Can't really get that feeling in Taipei--just the crazy morning rush and after work traffic.
But with the yin there is a yang. The night is here is amazing. Besides the fact that there's too many things to do to list, just by looking down Zhong Xiao E. Rd is a treat in itself. I guess its safe to say that Taiwanese people are more nite owls than morning people.
I can't wait for the weather to get cooler. I learned 1 valueable lesson this past month. And that is: no mascara during the summer months in Taiwan. I'm always mistaken for a high schooler here, so for work, I would wear make up--nothing fancy. But with the walking and the sweating and the long hours, I would literally look like a panda by the end of the day. Plus, I once poked myself in the eye with a qtip while trying to wipe it off. I stopped applying mascara the next morning. Lesson learned the hard way.

In & out
I think I've caught Astri's maniacal blogging obsession! ^__^
I remember talking to Heather on the phone about 2 months ago. I called cuz I had accepted a job offer at a import/export company and thought I would have the income to make the international call. I tried to sound excited about the job, but it wasn't something to gush about.
In the conversation, Heather saying how her job (she's in pr) wasn't fulfilling-- in the sense that what she was doing wasn't saving lives or making a positive impact. Now that I'm in advertising, I'm starting to wondering that as well. If y'all didn't know, I'm advertising tobacco ( I know, I'm going straight to hell).
The advertising process is fun. I work closely with the creative team that designs the ads, meet with suppliers that manufactures the samples and relay info to the client. There's always something to do and to learn, but the whole tobacco thing is getting to me. I can't help but think, "shit, I'm advertising a product that kills. wtf is wrong with me?" Is it really worth it to stick to it after trying so hard to get in? So much for having morals or principles eh?
I know I should be more open-minded, but everytime I look at my LIVESTRONG bracelet, the word 'hypocrite' screams back at me. All I can say right now is 'in & out'.

Too much time?
I'm typing away in Janet/Amanda's room and as I look around, I'm noticing 5 different clocks! There's 3 by the bed, 1 on the desk and 1 hanging on the wall. If you count my laptop and cell phone, that's 7! clocks in a tiny space. Interesting...
I have too much time on my hands. Ha-ha-ha.. (pat on the back)

Sunday
Alice invited me to her friends bday shinding earlier and at first I was a bit hesitant to go... I still had food coma from dinner and was suprisingly gassy. But I decided to stop by and meet new people--and boy did I!
All the people that I met are taking classes at ShiDa and it was really nice to finally relax and enjoy the scene.

Games
People at work love to play games. I guess its their way of bonding. We went bowling couple weeks ago and the new trend is playing "big old two" before the weekend. My kind of people!
I met up with Grace couple days ago to pick up some stuff she brought from the states. I was hoping for some juicy gossip, but alas, all I got was a sympathetic shrug of the shoulders. Next time, next time....
I will be starting my 4th week at Batey this coming Monday--time sure flies! I'm still trying to learn the basic lingos and procedures, but some days, I feel like a complete idiot and can't understand a lick of what they're trying to tell me. That's not ADD right?
I officially moved into the apt with Alice and Moe. I'm actually a part-time roommate still. 4 days there and 3 days with grandma. Amanda went back to the states yesterday and won't be back till end of September. Gee, I wish I could visit the states. I'm still craving Taco Bell!!!! And at this moment--KFC! Must be that time of the month coming up. Sigh~

Typhoon Part Deux
So we had another typhoon last friday (8/5). Wasn't as bad as the first one and I welcomed the day off from work. But with good things, there's always a catch. I have to do a presentation on Monday so my weekend will be spent researching the Taiwan Tobacco Market. I feel like I'm back in Raven's class...
We did a mass cleaning of the apt yesterday and even rearranged the furniture. I do like the new set up--it reminds me of the "Friends" set. The apt is manifested with these little bugs and we can't figure out where they're coming from! Pain in the ass. AND, when we were cleaning Moe's food, we found another species of bugs! I think the apt is too moist, plus we have carpet so its easier for bugs to multiple. Oh gosh, I'm living in a bug's nest!
I had the oddest dream last nite. I was being hunted down by a robot from the future! Yes, it does sound like a cheap "the terminator" rip off, but I actually woke up when the robot caught me! Funky--I wonder what it means!! Seeing that I couldn't sleep, I decided to brew some coffee and make some good ol fashion american style banana pancakes for breakfast. Too bad we don't have bacon, that would've made it 100% perfecto! Man, I miss IHOP!
Work is work. I'm still trying to fit in and its taking longer than expected. Sometimes I wish there was another ABC or foreigner in the office. Bah~

"light bulb"
I'm a big fan of this Taiwanese talk show called "kan xi lai le". Todays rerun had 5 local models as guests. One of them looked strangely familiar... I kept thinking to myself, "have I met her before?"... then it hit me!
A month ago I had written an entry about a Chinese Angelina Jolie lookalike--I think they're related! They have to be sisters (the big goldfish eyes--uncanny!). I mean, they both have the same last name and its an uncommon one. Plus, they're both freakishly tall for a Taiwanese. Haha--so funny. The Chinese Angelina is an AD at Pubilicis--has to be in her late 20's to be an AD... The model on tv is a year younger than me. I'm just laughing at my thinking process. *chuckle chuckle*
Other than my absurd way of entertaining myself, I lasted 5 full days at Batey! Go me! The work is fun--but a lot of shit to learn. I know I'm going to get 'lectured' in the upcoming weeks. >__<"
I made a visit to this club called Room 18 last nite. They have a new location and its just HUGE! Very swanky inside. I didn't dance much nor drink. I was just in awe at the club scene. Sure reminded me of the days I used to teach English. I gotta say tho, Taiwanese guys sure groove to a 'different' kind of beat. I did notice that a lot of the local girls are getting freaky deaky with each other. Felt like I was watchin porn or something. I left the club around 12:30am (early huh?) and called it a nite.
Time to enjoy the rest of my weekend.

Lucky 8
2 mundane jobs and 7 ad agencies later, I will be calling Batey / Red Cell my home.
[insert happy sigh]
[insert happy sigh]
Explanation
I apologize for the "fool me once" post. I should be more descriptive.
A couple of months ago, I had an interview with PR agency. During the phone interview, I had specifically told the person I was not particularly fluent in Mandarin--especially reading and writing. She told me it wasn't a problem and that I should still come in for the interview. Turns out it was a problem--not a minor problem, but a MAJOR problem. The PR director was nice enough to tell me that PR agencies in Taiwan use mostly Chinese to communicate with vendors/media and that the chances of me landing a job in PR was next to nothing. Lesson learned.
Last week, another PR agency called and asked me to come in for an interview. I was very straight up with him about my lack of Chinese and he said it wasn't a problem. *insert deja vu* So against my better judgment, I still went. After filling out a brief application form, I was told that I wasn't qualified for the job. WTF?
Retards, I tell ya. Fuckin retards.

Ghost Town
ty phoon: A tropical cyclone occurring in the western Pacific or Indian oceans.
A typhoon swept through Taiwan yesterday/today. It wasn't my first encounter with one, but nevertheless it was a bit scary at times. Once the news gave out warnings, people flocked to grocery stores and stocked up on rice, instant noodles and other necessasities. Businesses piled sand bags in front of their stores to prevent flooding and most windows were taped with the letter [x] to prevent them from shattering from the massive winds.
The winds and rain were the most relentless at 4am. The constant howling of the wind was a sure sign I would not get a good nite's sleep. One comedic moment came around 3am when I noticed the air con was leaking water. I instantly grabbed a pad and taped it against the air con to prevent future leaks. I felt like McGyver, but it didn't work entirely b/c I had to change the pad a couple of hours later. ^__^
When the sun rose and winds died down, I took the bus to my friends' apt to use the internet. Enroute, I noticed scooters tipped over from the wind, trees uprooted and the eerieness of the lack of people not roaming the streets.
As I continued to watch the news (I heard that the typhoon had not passed!) a report came on that I thought was smart as hell! A GUCCI store was robbed at 5am and an estimated 2 million NT worth of bags/merchandise was stolen. The store security tapes stopped recording at 3am and with the added typhoon, it was literally the perfect moment to rob a store! Of course I don't encourage stealing, but it was the perfect crime at the perfect time! Kudo's to them~

Double Take
I was riding down Ho Ping E. Rd yesterday and almost got into an accident b/c I thought I saw Astri! But it was actually the new singer, Rebecca and her entourage. How crazy is that? I didn't mean to stare, but I think she caught me staring at her for that brief .03 seconds. If I had her album, I would've stopped and gotten her autograph. Oh well, its not like she's super duper famous.
For some odd reason, I've been waking up at 6am this past week. It's been hell on my body b/c I try to sleep again, but I just get even more tired later in the day. And there's no point for me to wake up at 6. I think my body sub consciously thinks I have a job but no, I really don't. I guess when I start working, I won't have to adjust. Wow, my body is actually thinking ahead!

Edumacation
I was crusing a teaching job posting site and the name of this place was just too funny! It took me a second or two to understand.
AGKsion Language School.
hmm--yes, 'education' is very important. I wonder if they can make that into a t-shirt...

Breaking News
One of the few pleasures I have everyday when I turn on my computer is reading my friend's blogs. More specifically, I read Astri's blog b/c she has the decency to update it daily--for that, I salute you!
I absolutely hate watching the news in Taiwan b/c its very repetitive and the news topics always leave me with this thought: oh my god~
There was a story on a security guards dormitory and how his bunk gave him wet dreams every night. Other guards didn't believe him and when they slept on his bunk, they too had wet dreams. Sick~
Then there was the story of a family that adopted a scruffy, beat up dog. When the reporters asked them how the dog was doing now, they said "Oh, we washed the dog and now he doesn't look scruffy or beat up." @;@"
Recently a Taiwanese model/actress came out to reporters that her husband of 8 months had frequently beat her. In an attempt to save her and their 4 month old son, she figured the only way out was to hold a press conference. This has been the 'hot topic' this past week. So hot, that the news anchor held off the London bombing news to show the news of an abused wife.
Gee, I didn't know an abused wife story that's been going on for at least 4 days held more importance than breaking news on terrorism. Pretty fucked up if you ask me.

Cockroaches vs Mosquitos
Sorry my title sounds like a low-budget horror flick.
I have a bone to pick with the creator of cockroaches and mosquitos. I mean, COME ON NOW! What good are they to society? Why aren't they extinct? It's not like we can eat them (except for the poor souls that do on Fear Factor) or that they're full of nutrients.
Okay, some might say that even though we, humans do not eat them, other creatures do. I believe rats and other bigger insects feed off of them. Not that I'm an anti-advocate for animal rights, but I'm positive I won't lose sleep if we lived in a world without rats, spiders, insects and other diesease carrying creatures. The whole circle of life/food chain theory is just over rated.
I say bring back the saber tooth tiger, wooly mammoth and do-do birds and drive these baterica-carrying insects to extinction! At least the shit from those animals can help fertalize the Earth.
Who's with me?

70% Fobulous
You know you're turning into a 100% bonafide fob when you start collecting Hello Kitty magnets...
The lastest fad in Taiwan are these mini Hello Kitty magnets. You can only get them at 7-11 (by purchasing 77NT or more) and there's 30 of them to celebrate 30 years of Hello Kitty mania. I initially started collecting them to give to my godmom's daughter, but since she got all 30 of them, I'm starting to collect them as well! They're useful!
I don't think I have the strength to collect all 30, but it would be nice. I think I have 8 so far.
Anyway-- out of the blue, Kieran messenges me and he's coming back to Taiwan! Whoo-hoo! I told Alice that I was the glue that held everyone together (I think I say that a lot). She just laughed in my face. Whatever, I like to think its true.
Oh, I met up with Josh and Timmy today. They bought a basketball at Xi Men Ding and we played ball at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. It was fun, hot and exhausting. Too bad Josh is leaving tomorrow--no more ball! =(
Sorry I was such a wet blanket Josh! I promise to take you out next time you're in town!!!

Chinese Angelina Jolie!?
When I interviewed for the AE position at Publicis, I noticed that the account director looked a lot like Angelina Jolie! I thought I was imaging things...but when I went in again for my Chinese test, the resemblance was uncanny! Similar facial structure, big eyes, lips--and she's tall for a Taiwanese! (I'm guessing around 5'9).
Anyway, there's a new singer in Taiwan that I think resembles the lovely Astri.

Sithsense my ass! I thought it was a 20 questions game--freakin darth vader kept asking! I think he asked 26 questions and still couldn't figure out my object. I was thinking of a toothbrush. Next time, I'm going to think of a vibrator--let's see if I can outwit a darthie twice!
Whoo-hoo! Just got a free black bra from Alice! It fits like a glove and makes my boobs look bigger! I shall call it my Black Magic bra! mUahahahaha.

Cable TV
It just struck me now that cable tv here includes commercials! What a pain in the ass! I was watching Sex and the City and I was interupted by several commercials! Grr~ I thought the whole point of subscribing to movie channels was to get rid of unwanted commercials.
My Godmom works for a high end retail store, Loewe, and they had a fashion show the other day at Taipei 101. Jason and Amanda couldn't make it so it was just me and Alice enjoying the h'orderves and cocktails. My Godmom was helping out a really x5 rich customer and pulled Alice and I aside and asked us if we wanted to be introduced to the guy. SUGA DADDY! But considering it was a bit scandelous, we quickly changed the topic. Whew~
Now for official news. I've accepted a job as a Trade Account Executive. My starting date is still being scheduled, but I told them June 20th is my preferable start date. It's not advertising, but its a great company and there's lots of room for advancement.

Super Granny
My Grandma has super duper human strengths! When I came home last nite, I saw a HUGE ASS spider on the wall. I mean, it was the size of my hand! I started shrieking like a girly girl and my grandma took one look, went to the kitchen, grabbed a broom and started beating the crap out of the spider. I figured I needed a weapon to protect myself, just in case the spider were to attack me, and the nearest object I could get my hands on was an umbrella.
My grandma doesn't have very good eye sight and kept missing the the spider when it fell to the floor. In a brave attempt by yours truly, I took one swing and defeated the giant spider! As teh spider lay dead on the floor, my grandma swoops down and picks up the dead carcass with her bare hands!!! Once again, I started shrieking like a girly girl cuz it was just too much!!
And that's my story.

LIVESTRONG
In the states, it seems like everyone has one of those yellow 'livestrong' bracelets (I'm no exception). But in Taiwan, the only people I've noticed that wear them are people in advertising. And whenever they see me wearing it, they have a 'shocked' expression on their faces. Kinda funny.
Anyhoo, after the disappointment with McCann, I started to weigh my options to pursue other opportunities. Wham-bam~ I got an offer at a trading company and it aint too bad. I have till Friday to tell them my final decision. But at this point I'll be taking it. The only bad thing is its a bit far. Whatever, taht's what the MRT is for.

David's English Center
I think its typhoon season here.... It's been raining like crazy this past week and from the news, there's floods in Southern Taiwan. Yikes!
I have to teach a class demo tonite at David's English Center. The company itself is smaller than Global Village but the pay is higher and its closer to grandma-mas. I'm reviewing the material that I have to teach and it just cracks me up!
A: Our tickets are gone! They aren't in my purse.
B: I have them, Bobbie. Can you just relax? You're driving me nuts!
C: Did you see my handbad? I want to read the tour guide.
D: I think your bag is checked.
E: Did you know this airport was built in 1750?
F: You are lying! Airplanes weren't even invented until the early 1900's.
G: I'm afraid of the airplane being hijacked.
H: Don't be silly! Let's get on board.
Once again, I'm teaching adults--so it should be fun!
Loewe fashion show tomorrow afternoon. My godmom told me to bring all my "pretty friends". Too bad most people I know are working! Oh well... at least I convinced Alice, Amanda and Jason to go. Free samples!~
On a sad note, I didn't get the AE position at McCann Erickson. But according to Agnes (hr director), I'm on her short list for future potential entry level positions. Bah~

Internet cafe, we meet again!
I realized from my past posting that I didn't really explain anything. Ha-ha....my bad. So here's the scoop.
After talking to Grace about the job and the meager salary, her opinion was "its too low! find a different job". I called the company and tried to renegotiate the salary. Seeing that they wouldnt budge, I told them politely that I would have to decline the position. Point of the story? I'll never listen to Grace again! =P
Speaking of Grace, I finally met up with her last nite. When she called me at 7:30pm the first words outta my mouth were "oh wow, you're off early!" I was at my friends house when she called and I told her taht I would bike over in a bit.
Yep, that's right! I bought a bike. Not a scooter ( =( ) but an actual 2-wheeler bicycle. I haven't owned a bike since jr. high and truth be told, I'm so out of shape! And get this, its PINK! I bought a yellow lady bug shaped bell and bike helmet. I get stares everywhere cuz people in Taiwan don't wear bike helmets!!! I think its crazy considering all the traffic. I'd rather get the stares than to look 'normal' without one.
Alice was with me when I bought the bike and as I was looking at all the bike accessories, I really wanted to pimp my bike! A basket is next! Muahahahaha!
I have an interview with a Baking company later. Wish me luck Kristi! If I get the job, you'll be set for life with cooking ingredients! =P

frugly baby
I need to update more. Tsk tsk.
It seems that my past entries have all been about job hunting--well, I'm ending it now! I got a job offer last Friday as a Marketing Specialist (its really a branding position) and I'll be starting Monday. It's not what I had in mind, but it'll do for the time being.
The gals and I went and saw the Taipei Phil Harmonics perform couple days ago and it was amazing! But the highlight of the night happened in the cab ride over.
We were talking about instruments and languages.
Amanda: (to Janet) No wonder you're so good at languages. (cuz Janet's a pro violinist)
Janet: Yes, its because I can hear things...
Me, Amanda and Alice: o__O" yes, of course you can hear~~~

Whaddya know
I've been on 7 interviews now. I had 2 back-to-back today. I've been getting the same responses "So, how's your Chinese?" o__O"
One of the interviews I had today was actually a 2nd one. I had to do a powerpoint presentation (not the TNS company) and present it to the manager. I think he's from Malaysia or Singapore. I could tell from his English accent. Anyhoo, after my previous experience with people in that area (Pico), I was somewhat prepared in formatting my questions and answers.
They're hiring 4 researchers and do I want to be one of the 4? I really don't know. It would be a last resort. Why? Cuz the manager is from SE Asia! No offense to those from there, but I know how "nonsense" minded they can get.
I have 1 interview tomorrow and then I'll be all out. Shit~

Taxes
During my brief stint as an English teacher, I made thousands and thousands of NT dollars. Now, I have to fill out a damn tax form! I actually have around NT1000 waiting for me, but after looking at the form, the government can keep the money! Plus, I got a phone call from OUI couple days ago and my extra curicular activity as "an interpreter" has to be taxed too. UGH~

TNS Global
I had an interview yesterday morning at a market research/consulting firm. I think it went okay. I was pleasantly surprised that everything was conducted in English and when I met with my interviewer, he actually shook my hand as he introduced himself.
In Taiwan, no one shakes hands when first introduced. Its a bit weird not to but I'm starting to adjust to it. When he was done introducing the company and the position, I started to ask a bunch questions and towards the end, he's going to have HR schedule a 2nd interview. Whoo-hoo! But he warned me taht for the 2nd interview, I'll be given a case study and I'll have to do a 20min presentation to the team. WTF? Whatever--it'll be just like Callaghans class.
Over and out.

Cockroaches
I went jogging with the girls Sunday nite. We started from their apt and jogged to Taan Park. It was a perfect evening to go out and at point, I felt like we were marathon runners. There's an amphitheater in the park and I heard Amanda sing for the first time---damn she's good!! I can't wait for her album to come out. I asked if I could get my freak on in her music video--she said sure. Whoo-hoo!
I have 3 interviews lined up for this week. I thought one of them was for today--good thing I doubled checked cuz its really for tomorrow! Ooops. I'll be administered a writing test, but this time, I'll get to write in English! *breathe of relief*
Last nite, as I was getting ready for bed, I saw a cockroach near my pillow!!!! Gross huh? I wasn't quick enough to kill it with my slipper so I was hella paranoid the rest of the nite--wondering if the cockroach will attack me in my sleep and lay eggs deep within my skin. *shiver* (astri, i read your friends blog about not licking envelopes cuz cockroaches lay eggs on them or something....)
As for the Ogilvy writing test, its fine if they don't call me back. I'm over it! ^__^
ps. Josh, I can never read your blog!!! Unblock me or something.....

Oglivy or bust!
I think I'm giving myself too much pressure. I have an interview with Oglivy tomorrow afternoon and I'm already shakin like a chihuahua. Not too sure why, but I'll be administered a test that will last 2-3 hours, in both Mandarin and English!!! It's going to take longer than the S.A.T's, but hot diggity, I better get results!
I'm just worried cause I don't know what the interviewing style will be and I would hate to fuck up due to minor blunders. But I guess if I do do horribly bad, I'll take it as lessoned learned and work my ass off when another interview rolls around.
Wish me luck!

Monday's
I'm starting to think that anywhere in world, Monday's are the pits. It's not that I'm having a bad day or anything, but just knowing that its Monday brings the blues.
I had a somewhat busy weekend. I went to Keelung for some seafood lunch with the family and had plans to meet with Janet later in the evening for a nice job around Taan Park. She flaked on me but I still took the opportunity to jog down Zhong Xsiao Xin Shen.
Sunday was a day spent with my godmoms family in the mountains. We had lunch at a local shed like place, played ball, walked around and ate dinner somewhere in the country side. Janet text me to see if I had wanted to go bowling, but after a whole day trekking around, I was too tired. Turns out she was with a few local celebrities ( F4's Vaness, Tension's Jimmy, Machi, etc). Oh well--not too bummed cuz she didn't list Brad Pitts name. Then I would've been kicking myself in the arse.
Job situation: the package has been sent. The only thing now to do is wait..........

First nite
My first nite in Taiwan, I met up with Alice and Janet and had dinner near their apt. We decided on sushi and headed to this place similar to Sushiland. It was a bit surreal to be sitting there with them. Once we ordered sashimi and proceeded to have the funniest conversation.
Janet had a piece of raw fish in her mouth and felt disgusted by the texture and had no other option but to spit it out.
Janet: It's like having a piece of raw fish in your mouth!
Me & Alice: oookay
Janet: It's like having fish in your mouth! You know what I mean?
Me & Alice: *blinked blankly*
Apparently we didn't know what she had meant, but it was some funny shit.
Hope all is doing well!

Back to the Inferno called Taiwan
Bada bing, bada BOOM!
I'm off to Taiwan---tonite! I misunderstood the flight times and I thought I would be flying out Wednesday nite at 1:55am, but silly me, its actually Tuesday nite/Wednesday morning. Oops~~
As I was feeding the meter in chinatown, I accidently tripped over my foot and instead of catching my balance, I just plain fell to the ground and rolled over. It was really sad. 2 people walked by me and looked at me like I was stupid and crazy.
I'm off to run more errands and to say last good-byes. I apologize for not having a good bye dinner. Its just that I've had like 2 already and I keep coming back!! Kind of defeats the purpose, wouldn't you say?
I'll miss everyone!! And best of luck with all your endeavors!

I called HR in SF today and it turns out they're looking for people with at least a years worth of experience. Why am I not surprised? But HR did say a possible informational interview. I told her the dates that I would be in SF (May 2nd-16th) and hopefully she'll schedule something.
Not that I wouldn't go for an informational interview-- but I'm so ready to fly to Taiwan. I'll see what happens by the end of the week.

April Showers Bring May Flowers
I can't believe its almost May!!!
An update on what's been going on in my suburbia life:
1. Celebrated Jason's bday at his house on Friday. The boys played endless rounds of video games while the ladies (and Jeremy/Josh) conquered the mah jong table. Mah jong nick names were given and thus heroines were born! (I'm just being silly)
2. Celebrated Miss Hong Kong's bday on Saturday by having dinner at FX McRory's and gettin jiggy with it at Club Element followed by food intake at Purple Dot (where we saw other clubbers from Element).
3. Housewarming party at Johnny and Clara's two weekend ago where Mr. Siu Lah Ba had the audacity to pinch my left nipple in front of Clara's mother. (tsk, tsk...shame, shame)
4. Cathy, my "korean" friend who's actually white, introduced a fellow Red Hawk that's working in advertising down in SF and there might a possible job opportunity in the works.
5. Let's say for reality sake that SF doesn't work out, my back up plan is Taiwan! Shouldn't be too surprising for some folks since I do tend to leave every 4 months or so.
6. Campuspoint sucks ass. I applied for this entry-level position that I'm actually qualified and met all the requirements but they rejected my resume. I don't understand cause I got an interview with the same parent company but different subsidary last month--and its pretty much the same position. Hmm...maybe that's why my resume got rejected.
7. Pilates is kicking my ass, not shaping it!! Been kinda lazy and haven't ran on the treadmill for a few days. I need to get back in the groove of things. 60kg!!!
8. Last but not least, being the doofus taht I am, I accidently dropped my car keys down the elevator crack at Rianna's. The most annoying thing-- The elevator maintenance people come once a month, if they call them in just to retrieve my keys, it'll cost extra. What the @#%!

Winsor Pilates
The Juang household ordered the celebrity recommended Winsor Pilates couple weeks ago. It came in the mail today and my sister and I decided to try it.
Boy did it kick our asses! My abs sure felt the burn but I think my ass was numb from all the squeezing. Let's see how many inches I can lose!
Day 1: 20 mins

Sunday's are the best! For me it's the one day that I don't feel quilty for doing absolutely nothing.
Breakingnews: It was Miss Hong Kong's birthday yesterday and she didn't tell anyone!!! GRRR!!!! No worries, we'll celebrate her bday this coming weekend--along with Jason's. Another weekend of birthdays.... I don't think I ever experienced something this crazy before.
Interview with FCB Monday--I think.... gotta check with campuspoint.

Compliments of sorts
An excerpt from Mi Ryung's email.
"You'll never be a mean girl. You're too damn diplomatic."
I've been called many a things, but diplomatic? Rrright... On second thought, is that even a compliment? o__O"

Blockbuster Online
Bridget Jones's Diary 2 came in the mail about 3 weeks ago and I still haven't watched it. It's one of those movies that if it's lying around I'll ignore it but once it's gone I'll want to see it. Life's a hoot.
My uncle emailed me yesterday letting me know that I have a tax return check in the amount of 1000NT waiting for me in Taiwan. That comes out to about $30 US dollars. Quoting Marlow "Hot Damn".
Marlow's trying to recruit people to visit her white ass in Shanghai this Summer. She landed a Summer internship there and is enticing folks with cheap beer and kareoke. I'm sold as long as I have free lodging.
Interesting....

Sign of old age
Another weekend out and about. I had spent Friday evening with Sharon and James. It was actually one of the best low-key moments I had in a long time. We had dinner at Indochine and harassed Tien while she worked. Afterwards we went to Barnes & Nobles and while Sharon studied Cell Biology, James and I read magazines.
There's an awesome book called "The Angry Little Girl" and the Asian girl character is literally depicted from Tien's life. 2 thumbs up!
I was going to keep it even lower key Saturday nite, but a couple guys called me up wanting to go out. So I rounded up some people and boom, we were off to Element. I think I pulled my back while doing Heather's famous drop it like its hot move.
Celebrity of the nite~ We saw Ray Allen of the Seattle SuperSonics at the club! No wonder we're on a losing streak, these guys need to be at home resting... and I think Seahawks QB was there also? Interesing....

Century Ballroom
My first time salsa dancing in Seattle--boy, was it a workout! Those middle aged Mexicans sure have stamina! I was spinning, twirling, stepping on toes, being stepped on, gettin it on with my bad self, etc throughout the nite. But it definitely makes it more fun if you know the steps or have a middle aged Mexican dude dragging you across the dance floor.
2 thumbs up!

April 1st
The beginning of another month... I have mini-tidbits of news.
1. Last day at PLP. I got a nice little surprise in the form of check! Thanks PLP crew!
Oh, how I'm going to miss being referred to as "Janet", re-enacting scenes from House of Flying Daggers, bugging the office folks for work and bringing in weird ass food from Chinatown. It's been a great 3 months.
2. Cousin Jimmy's getting married in October! Time to book a flight down to SF.
3. I got a "I got lei'd in Hawaii" shirt from Josh. (I'm wearing it now.)
4. According to Tien, I'm a ho~ Like you're the one to talk!
5. I remember last years April 1st. I got duped twice by Janet. I wanna see how you're going to fool me this year, sucka!!
6. Happy April Fools Everyone!

Last Week at PLP
My last week at PLP!!! I'm sad and excited but its time to move on and harass another company.
I need a mini vacation pronto! Jeremy, Alan, Sharon and I have been planning a freakin trip up to BC for the LONGEST TIME!!! Everytime we have a date set, something comes up. Its been rescheduled so many times already that I don't feel like going anymore.
A trip to Taiwan never sounded so good....

I "heart" Monday
I just spent 1.5 hours playing around with the Rubicks cube, trying relentlessly to get at least one side the same color. I gave up b/c I have this wonderful project that needs to be done. Ugh, I need coffee or something that'll get me in the "work mode".
Okay, I'm going to give myself 15 mins to compose myself and BAM~ its SOA, IDE and EAI for the rest of the afternoon! ZzZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Wing Chick Job Post
Be a Wing Chick! - $25 per hr.
Are you outgoing, funny and love hooking people up?
I'm looking for 2 gals that would like to make a few extra $$ a month and are great social butterflies that can make conversation with ANYONE! You may have read about this lately - but this is a service where you help men meet women by being their "wing chick."
This means that you are out with them in a social environment in a COMPLETELY PLATONIC WAY. (In fact we have very strict rules regarding this.) It is your job to find women you think might be a good match for your "friend." You will do a little re-con, to make sure this gal is single - then weave your friend into the conversation. After that - it's up to him to get the number, etc!
Typical hours are in the evening - weeknights are a minimum of 2 hours, maximum of 4 - weekends are a minimum of 3 hours, and maximum of 5. All WingChick assignments have strict rules about locations, etc. You will never be allowed to be in a car with your "friend", and you will never be allowed to accept tips, and all locations are required to be public and well populated. You have to be highly intuitive, know how to deal with all kinds of personalities, and have a good background in the world of dating! You will be required to have a background check done, and provide references.
Interested? Please send a detailed cover letter (150 - 300 words) as to WHY you think you'd make a great Wing Chick. Photos are also helpful. Position closes on March 7th. This is a woman owned business!

TGIF
Action packed bday weekend. Parent's must've been gettin busy if ya know what I mean. Yeesh!! Condoms, people!! Condoms!
As you can tell, I'm over flowing with work at "work". Half the people are out and that leaves just 4 people in the office. I'm trying to pitch the idea of an early day~~ but I don't think it'll happen.
MmM, I'm craving a rice crispy treat right now. *droOl*

Rain?
I think I control the weather somehow. I mean, its the first time I decided to take a break from work and it rains! Whaddya know~ I bring the sun, I feel like the sun, I am the sun! Okay, that was a bit freaky.
Shucks, I'm still trying to figure out how to add people's blog sites. Astri, next time I'm over we're going to do a mini-tutorial--a.k.a, you're going to do it for me! =P
My internship is in its last stretch. My remaining goals are to learn pitches and press releases. Hopefully adding those skills onto my resume will make me stand out more when I'm applying to jobs.
Over and out.
PS. I finally caved and ate BEEF ribs at Claim Jumpers. I only ate 1 plus 1 more the day after... Hey, I was down and depressed, beef was my only friend.
----------------------------------------------
I hate sales people...er, that's a bit harsh. I hate "sales" in general.

So Chinese~~
A student of mine sent me this joke and I thought it was worthy enough to be posted.
Chinese Adam and Eve:
If Adam and Eve were Chinese, we would still be in paradise because Chinese people would have ignored the apple and eaten the snake!
So true, so Chinese....

A year in review
A year ago today, I was in Taiwan eagerly anticipating a month long journey to Southeast Asia. It's amazing how time just flies by and I'm wondering how I'm going to top the previous year.
Top 10 moments in Taiwan
10. Alice, waltzing out of the bathroom with just a towel
9. Talking about sex ed in one of my classes (Zhong San MRT)
8. The girls scrambling to get ready to go clubbing
7. Driving from Hua Lian to Tai Tung during Chinese New Years
6. Polly's uncontrollable hornyness
5. Phone tree (j, a, h, ma, me, g, o, p)
4. Crashing into a wall and getting stitches
3. Rushing out the door to throw away trash
2. Making brunch at the apt
1. Traveling to SE Asia and Australia
Honorable mention to Moe and her never-ending poop trail.

And the cycle continues
I'm half way through with my internship and it's been quite the ride! The experiences I've gained will hopefully be carried onto my next job. Thus I am starting the whole job hunting cycle once again. I feel I am better prepared this time around and hopefully won't repeat past mistakes.
Due to numerous advertising, I have signed onto Blockerbuster.com. I can now rent movies online (just like netflix) with a low monthly cost of $14.99. Speaking of enterntainment, I am now hooked on the tv show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. It is like fire to a moth!!!
In other entertainment news, we're planning on checking out the salsa dancing scene at the Century Ballroom this Saturday. I'm excited for it and I'm thinking it'll be oodles of fun.

Rude Awakening
This posting is in honor of Travis Dean Neuman, who called at 4 freakin AM just to hi. You are officially on my hate list--at the very top no less! Tien and I will be calling you back-to-back one of these days at an ungodly hour just to say hi. You've been warned bitch!!!

Tricks are for kids
I finally heard back from Marlow today. I get an email from her every so often and she replies at a decent pace, but I guess everyone gets lazy once in awhile and would rather watch tv, eat cookies and get drunk than to write an email. I salute you for that.
In recent developments, I have quit the Puget Sound Basketball League. My initial goal when joining was to get back in the groove of balling and to have fun. But things didn't work out and leaving now makes more sense than to stick it out and be miserable.
Age as taken a toll on me. It seems harder to bounce back after a nite out. Gee, if this is what 23 feels like, I wanna be 22 again! And I don't even drink all that much! Maybe I should and somehow it'll balance *something* out and I'll be 'perky' the morning after----riiiight.
I recently had an interview with a media agency and it was one of those interviews where you thought things went well, but no--they decide on someone else. It's a bit ironic--the interview for my current internship, I thought I did shitty on and wham-bam I got it. I guess I should just perform shitty on my next interview (whenever that will be) and I'll get the job!
Speaking of work, I have soooo many deadlines this week! I'm seriously thinking about heading in early to get it done. I don't have to, but I don't want to do a half-ass job--not my style(anyone surprised?).

Single at 23
It's funny to hear single friends wanting to settle down. What ever happened to personal success, reaching career goals and making $$ before saying "I do"? I'm finding it amusing to witness our thoughts and goals being re-evaluated over the years and wonder if they'll change again in the next 5 years. I'm sure it will...
Anyway, my whole blog is to point out--er, to ask: How do single people out of college date?
The options are grim.
1: Depending on friends to set you up with their friends/family hook ups.
2: Online dating services.
3: One word--CHINA.
Seattle was surveyed to be one of the top 5 most date-able cities in the US. What's going on?

Dropping it like it's H.O.T.
The Mah Jong Nazi is BACK!!!! Whoo-hoo! I cleaned house last nite by winnning a whopping $46!!!! GO ME! Yes, I get my ya-ya's by winning money from family members. It's a Chinese thing. Don't hate.
PS. Really wishin for a Yung Ho Dou Jiang place in chinatown. Maybe if I close my eyes and wished with all my might, it'd might come true?

Weekend Rendevous
So many things to write about---where should I start?
I had one of the best weekends ever in Seattle. Friday nite I did a much needed cardio activity by playing ball with the guys for 2 1/2 hours (full-court) and loaded up on carbs at ABC Garden afterwards. Sure reminded me of the good ol college times with the indo guys. Black magic anyone?
Saturday morning and afternoon was a blur but at nite, Kei, Jeremy and I spontaneously headed over to the Bada Lounge in Belltown. That place licked ass so we went next door to Axis. Much chiller crowd and ordered drinks. All of suden Jeremy was like "hey, you guys wanna go clubbing?" Kei and I both widen our eyes and slowly nodded in agreement. Down Under was just down the street and I did know the bartender there (free drinks!).
To make sure the place was poppin, we made Jeremy go down first to scope out the place. In the meantime, Kei and I split a hotdog and I noticed the bartender's brother, who was actually the club manager! So I went over to say hi and he remembered me!! So me and Kei got on "the list" and were pretty stoked about that. Tequila shots, bumpin n grindin and watching Jeremy dance like an old man later, it was time to go.
Hing Loon at 1:30am sure hit the spot!
Slumber party in room 425. Thats right, the 3 of us had a slumber party. Kei took the matress from the bedroom and laid it next to the futon in the living and that's how we slept. It was just like camp.
The morning after--Xeena's for breakfast!!!! Just like college, sigh~~~
CHURCH! Yes, yours truly went to church solely to scam on guys. It's low, pathetic and totally not worth it. But hey, I learned that I was God's Masterpiece and also got a free mug. So not a total waste of time.
Work wise: I'm getting a lot of projects and truth be told, I'm often confused and wondering what the heck I'm doing. But apparently I'm getting results but I'm still like "huh?".....
Oh yah, one last thing. Kei, Jeremy, Alan, Cyman, Danny, Marcus, Brandon, Andrew and I have put aside our differences and formed the Badunkas! Yes, we have joined the Puget Sound Basketball league and our first game is this Sunday. Wish us luck cuz we're going to need it!

2 Rules of the Biz
So my boss (technically everyone's my boss, but this person is the one who hired me) comes over to me today and in a tells me the golden 2 rules that she forgot to tell me yesterday. I started to freak out, thinking I did something wrong--but she goes:
"First off, if you haven't noticed, we're a loud bunch of people and anything goes. So if at any point we might have offended you, please let us know. We're very laid back--there's wine in the kitchen and beer in the fridge. Secondly, we value confidentiality..."
Wow, wine in the kitchen and beer in the fridge!?! Don't have to guess too hard in where I'll be spending my down time... Just kidding!

First day gitters
I started my internship today at the communications firm, Parker LePla. I was a nervous wreck and just did not know what to expect. I don't know why I was surprised to have my own desk (next to the boss!) but it was right next to the window where I had the wonderful view of Lake Union. Well, my back is towards the window, but every so often, I'd *stretch* and take in the view.
The people there seem really nice and just Seattle style-laid back. I'm not sure if its early in the game for the bitchiness to surface *knock on wood* but I am the only minority there so I gotta watch my own back. =P
There are no walls or dividers in the office so people are just speaking in high volumes to each other across the room. Open door policy, gotta love it...I think.
Anyway, after work I went to SU to work out and boy was I surprised to see a shit load of people there. Don't people eat dinner at 5:30? Hmm, now that I think about it, probably not. My goal isn't to lose weight but to discipline myself into working out after work each day. Go me!

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year everyone!
Being a little bit older and not that much wiser, I really wanted to go out for New Years eve. Danny T, Stephaine, Travis, Kei, Sophia and Danny L were all down to paint the town red. We pre-funked at the Kristi's place (thanks Kristi!) and piled into Travis's car (thanks Travis!) and cruised down to Pioneer Square to get the party started.
We got seperated from the start--Sophia, Travis and I were upstairs in The Last Supper Club, Danny T and Stephaine were downstairs, while Kei and Danny L checked out other clubs within the vicinity. I hooked up right away with Tom/Todd (whatever his name was) and while he was getting a drink for me, Matt started dancin with me and I totally dissed Tom/Todd. I'm so sorry!
We went to Fenix Underground for part II of the nite and there were some really cute guys there! This cute but arrogant lookin guy walked up to me and Sophia and said:
Him: Are you waiting for someone?
Me: What? Am I waiting for someone?
Him: Yah, are you waiting for me?
o_O"
We were chillin by the stairs and this other really cute guy looked over at me. We played eye tag for a few seconds and he flashed this incredible smile, cocked his head and said "hey" or something. I really wanted to talk to him, but it seemed like he was busy in a huddle with his friends or something.
To the very cute white dude wearing a white button down shirt at Fenix Underground, holla at me!!
Anyway, I got my New Year's kiss plus a free drink so it was a good nite for me.
The next day: I met up with Heather in Queen Anne and she had some wild stories to tell. It was really nice to see her and caught up on the way down to Portland where I dropped her off at Nat's place and drove back home. Boy was I exhausted by the end of the nite. And right when I was about to log off, Jeff logged on and we talked for a while. I was trying to be matchmaker but I think I was a little over my head.
Heather and Jeff sitting in tree? Eh, only in my twisted, crazy, sick mind.

Holiday Blues
What better way to spend the holidays by being sick....I really don't understand. Let's see, I went out on the 20th with Graham, Mi Ryung, Tien, and Ram's family. Felt fine, although I did have a huge headache on the way home. The nite of the 21st, I started to cough--oh no. 22nd was a full day of coughing. 23rd was a day of body aches. And this morning, my throat felt like shit when I woke up. I guess you gotta hit rock bottom before you start feeling better again.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

Updates
Wow, time sure flies when you're doing nothing! It's been a while since my last entry and a lot has happened too. Where shall I begin?
1. After month's of searching for a job in LA with no avail, it took me a week to land an internship in Seattle. Granted its unpaid, but whatever. I will be interning for Parker LePla, a full service communications firm, on Jan. 3. The internship will last 3-6 months and I'm actually pretty excited. Go me!
2. I quit beef. That's right--- I QUIT beef. I just figured that if I cut down on my meat intake, I'll have room for more veggies and fruits. I haven't touched anything beefy since Thanksgiving...only the good Lord know's how I'm doing it.
3. I am going to my first Sonic's game on the 28th, so look for me on tv!! I'm going with my little cousin (not a hot a date) and we'll be sitting pretty close to the court. No nose bleed seats for me.
4. I learned how to type in Chinese! Well, I didn't learn, I just didn't know that I could till now. Whoo-hoo!
5. I finally saw Mi Ryung drunk. She's one of em silent drunks--chillin by themselves until aggervated. It's pretty funny.
6. Extended family is living with us now. I swear my house is broading house or something. What's sad is that I'm now sharing a room with my sister and its not bad, but I know we would both like our own rooms.
7. Christmas is almost here! What I love best about this time is that I get to see high school friends that now live in New York. It's ironic how everyone wanted to leave and once they did, they miss Seattle like crazy.
8. Had my first Salmon Spring Roll party at Kei's. Everything was absolutely fabulous, except for the fact that Kei got sick--sorry! Must of been Canton Wonton. Oh, after meeting some new people, I reaffirmed my opinion that CS majors are just weird asses. I really don't understand their humor. Take a break from programing and GET OUT!
9. It was Graham's bday last nite and the last time I celebrated his bday was back in high school, so last nite was nice. I also saw RAM and his infamous wife. I really wanted to talk to Ram and to catch up with him cuz I have not seen him in 4 years. I'm going to try to meet up with him in Portland on the 1st. We'll see if the old ball n chains will let him out.
I think that's everything....

Hair today, gone tomorrow
I decided to get a haircut yesterday. I wanted more of a trim than a cut. I haven't had long hair in a while, so why not? I went my new usual place that most of us to go and was ready to make heads turn and use the phrase "don't hate me cuz I'm beautiful".
What I had thought to be a trim was a snip-snip here, and a snip-snip there. I needed to see more hair on the floor as evidence of getting my money's worth. As I know now, it is NOT good to be greedy. To make a 10 min haircut short, my hair is just whack. Can't really do anything to it! =(
On a different note, I spent almost 3 hours at Wal-Mart today. It was Kristi's and Kei's first time there, so I guess it was like Disneyland for them... Maybe, maybe not? Anyway, as people were getting gifts for loved ones, I was thinking about what to get people..... Maybe I'll be "creative" this year and make something for people (like a protrait of me in a cool frame?). Practial and useful!

The pain~~
What a sad day for yours truly. I had applied for a Media Planner position couple months ago in LA and the HR manager replied back, suggesting a different position that may be more suited to my qualifications. I e-mailed my resume to her directly and never heard from her till a month later. Turns out her computer crashed and she lost my resume. Not to fret, I e-mailed her again and never heard back.
Fast forward to the present. I got an e-mail from her--an invitation for an interview for the Assistant Media Planner position for the Infiniti team!!!!! My heart sunk. It's not like I got the job but at least let me interview for something~~
They have an office in Seattle but no current openings. Damn~
--------------------------------------------------------------
A side note to make me feel REALLY old. Turns out the school system in Federal Way has a new thing--something like a parent/teacher conference for high schoolers. My parent's can't make it so I'm stepping up. Tomorrow afternoon at 3, I will be my little cousin's contract guardian. *Think I can make it for the early bird special afterwards?*
